body through urination.  for this reason, large amounts of alcohol directly affect the liver.

women develop alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis at lower rates of alcohol con-sumption than men. if drinking ceases in some stages of cirrhosis,scar tissue may stop increasing. however, cirrhosis may continue to progress in women even after they stop drinking alcohol.
