울려 퍼질 흥겨운 곡이자 그의 레이블 G-Unit의 퍼스트 레이디 Olivia가
피쳐링한 이번 새 앨범의 첫 싱글 'Candy Shop' 수록!
50 센트 스스로 ‘지난 2년 여간 너무 많은 일을 겪었고, 그만큼 성장했다.
지난 앨범에 미처 담아내지 못한 것들이 나의 두 번째 앨범에 수록되어
있다’라고 밝힌 만큼 지난 앨범의 연장선 상에서 작업되었을
거란 예상은 어렵지 않다. 거칠고 강한 이야기를 라임으로 뱉어내면서도
언제나 ‘오바’하지 않는 50 센트 만의 랩 스타일 역시 변하지 않았으니
팬들은 “In Da Club”을 즐겼던 처음 그 때처럼
가벼운 마음으로 즐겨주면 될 것이다.
- “Candy Shop”: 현재 빌보드 싱글 차트에서 연속 2주째 정상을 지키고 있는,
이번 새 앨범의첫 싱글. 험악한 인상의 퀸즈 청년이 ‘사탕’을 이야기 하는
것이 참 안 어울리는 듯하기도 하지만, Olivia와 함께한 뮤직 비디오에서
보여지듯이 어둡고 무거운 그의 마초스러운 이미지가 섹시함과 거리가
멀다는 편견은 버려도 좋다. Olivia는 G-Unit의 유일한 여성 멤버로 영입되면서
50 센트의 첫 싱글에 참여하는 행운을 잡았는데 50 센트와 주고 받는
섹시한 코러스와 Scott Storch가 선사한 미드 템포 비트는
댄스 플로어를 후끈하게 달구고도 남을 만하다.
- “Disco Inferno”: 아가씨들에게 엉덩이를 흔들라고 선동(?)하는 도발적인
50 센트의 훅 부분이 클럽을 지배하리라는 예감이 강하게 드는 곡. 앨범 발표
이전부터 인터넷 상에 mp3 파일로 한바탕 돌아 많이
알려진 곡. 또한 눈 뜨고는 도저히 볼 수 없는 미디어 미공개 미성년자 관람
불가 섹시 뮤직 비디오가 인터넷 상에 공개되어 화!제!만!발!
- “Outta Control”: 이번 앨범의 두 번째 싱글로 점지된 곡.
- “Piggy Bank”: 흔히 말하는 Diss 트랙으로 Fat Joe와 Nas(Kelis와 더불어),
Jadakiss, Ja Rule 등 제법 많은 상대들에 대한 ‘사실’(50 센트 입장에서)을
이야기한 이 곡은 곧 새 앨범 발매를 앞두고 있는 Fat Joe의
심기를 건드려 벌써부터 Fat Joe가 자신의 앨범 타이틀을 바꾸고,
DJ Kay Slay의 라디오쇼에 출연해 50 센트를 ‘겁쟁이’라고 표현하며 비웃기도
했다. 이슈를 만들려고 작정한 일이었든, 아니든 50 센트의
영향력이 적지 않다는 것을 반증하는 결과인 듯.
- “Gatman & Robbin’”: 에미넴이 비트를 선사하고 친히 피처링한 곡.
에미넴다운 재치가 엿보이는 트랙.
워낙 50 센트의 장점과 매력을 잘 알고 있는 그이니 그 완성도에 대해선
의심할 필요가 없을 듯. (참고: 또한 에미넴은 인트로와 “I’m Supposed To
Die Tonight”, [Encore]에 수록된 “Like Toy Soldiers”를
연상시키는 “My Toy Soldier” 등에 비트를 선사했다. “My Toy Soldier”에
피처링한 Tony Yayo의 라이밍 역시 반갑다. )
- “A Baltimore Love Thing”: 이외에 헤로인 등의 약물에 관련된 이야기를 들려주는 곡.
- “Hate It Or Love It ? Remix”: The Game의 데뷔 앨범에 수록된 곡으로 이번에
Young Buck과 Lloyd Banks를
포함한 G-Unit 크루가 함께 리믹스 버전으로 재탄생시킨 흥미로운 곡.
과연 2집을 위해 60여 곡이나 녹음했다던 50 센트의 발언이 ‘허풍’은 아니었다.
골라 골라 이만한 트랙들을 채워 발매한 앨범이니 팬들의 오랜 기다림도 그만한
보상을 받을 수 있을 것 같다. 우선 “Candy Shop”과 “Disco Inferno”로 가볍게
즐겨주고, 제 입맛에 맞는 트랙들을 골라 듣다 보면
어느새 당신은 퀸즈 거리의 중심에 서 있음을 느끼게 될 것이다.
50 센트, 참 싸구려 이름을 갖고 있지만, MIC를 잡은 그는 지레 셈할 수 없는
가치를 가진 MC임에 분명하다.
