아침이 밝았습니다. 마치 태초의 그 아침처럼. 지빠귀가 노래를 하는군요. 마치 처음 새처럼. 그 노래를, 이 아침을,
신의 은총으로 탄생한 이 아침을 찬양합니다. 햇살에 빛나는 빗방울은 달콤하여라.
마치 태초의 잔디에 맺힌 그 이슬처럼.

언제나 강한 가사로 과격한 정치적 입장을 취했던 캣 스티븐스..

그는 사회성이 판을 쳤던 60년대를 지나서도 자신의 사회적 입장을

견지했으며 강한 메시지에도 불구하고 음악은 언제나 감성적이었다.

 

미국 시장에서 독특한 영국 출신의 싱어송라이터였던 그는

음악에도 동양적 요소를 집어넣어 차별화를 유지하였으며

작곡, 작사, 연주에 앨범쟈켓까지 직접 담당했던 재주꾼..

70년대말 이슬람으로 개종하며 "유셉 이슬람"이라고 이름을

바꾸고 팝계에서 은퇴하며 음악 활동을 접었다.

 

77년 은퇴 선언 이후에도 꾸준한 사랑을 받아온 영국의 음유시인

캣 스티븐스은 영화 [싱글즈]에 삽입됐던 히트곡
