딥퍼플(deep purple)은 1968년 데뷔한 영국의 록그룹으로, 70년대 또다른 밴드 '레드 제플린'과 함께 록 음악계를 양분했던 밴드.
한때 기네스북에 '지구상에서 가장 시끄러운 밴드'로 기록됐던 이들은 락의 황제, 락의 교과서, 락의 전설 등으로 불리며 지난 36년간 최고의 헤비메탈 그룹임을 인정받아왔다.
특히 70년대 초반 기타리스트 리치 블랙모어를 비롯한 제2기 멤버들을 중심으로 '스모크 온 더 워터(Smoke On The Water)' '하이웨이 스타(Highway Star)' '에이프릴(April)' 등 숱한 명곡을 쏟아내며 전성기를 구가했다.
2003년 말 신작 '바나나(Bananas)'를 발표하고 2004년까지 전미투어를 마쳤으며, 3월부터 일본 한국 중국을 순회하는 아시아투어를 하는 등 아직까지도 건재를 과시하고 있다.
