The more concrete, with its vast potential as a building material, entered architects' fields of vision,

the more their approach to it changed.

Gradually it was recognized as having an aesthetic value of its own in its unadorned form.

Whereas August Perret had coverd the construction of the concrete supports in his apartment house in the rue Franklin in Paris with ceramic tiles,by 1905.

 when he built the garage at 51 rue de Ponthieu, he showed the reinforced concrete grid quite openly, it was simply painted to protect it from the weather.

The wall spaces between the supports were completely filled with glass.
