United legend Bryan Robson has backed Ji-sung Park to succeed in what could be his only World Cup as captain of his country.

Park leads out South Korea against Greece on Saturday in what is being billed as an early crunch clash in Group C, which also contains Argentina and Nigeria.

The United winger stated earlier this week that he hopes the Korean squad is too good for him to get a place in it in four years' time, but for now Robson believes he will take great pride from his role in South Africa.

"It’s a great honour and a proud moment to lead your country out at a World Cup, and Ji will take that on board," Robson told ManUtd.com. "When you’re a kid playing on the park pitches, you never dream of being able to do that. I'm sure he'll do a great job in South Africa.

Robson, who captained England at two World Cup finals in 1986 and 1990, believes ice-cool Park is unlikely to be affected by the extra responsibility on his shoulders.

"I think he’s the kind of captain who leads by example," Robson added. "A lot of the Koreans’ game is based on workrate and team ethic, and he epitomises that. When you play for United, the one thing you have to be able to do is handle the pressure, and he does that without any nerves.
