Korea is a small country, thousands of miles away,

but what is happening there is important to every American.

On Sunday, June 25th, Communist forces attacked the Republic of Korea.

Fifty-two of the 59 countries which are members of the United Nations have given their support to the action taken by the Security Council to restore peace in Korea.

국제연합 소속 59개국 중 52개국가가 국제연합안전보장이사회 결의안에 동의함으로써,

대한민국에 대한 지원을 약속했습니다.

The United States requested the Soviet Government, 2 days after the fighting started,

to use its influence with the North Koreans to have them withdraw. The Soviet Government refused.

미 합중국은 개전 이틀 후,

소련에게 북한에 대한 실효적인 전쟁 저지를 촉구하였으나, 그들은 거부하였습니다.

We know that the cost of freedom is high.

But we are determined to preserve our freedom--no matter what the cost.
