? No matter how dead you think you've killed a bad guy, he can still get
up at least 1 more times.

나쁜놈을 확실히 죽였다 해도 그 인간은 적어도 한 번은 반드시 다시 살아난다.


? The bad guy usually kills his henchman for failing, yet don't seem to
run out of loyal henchmen.
   
악당은 보통 임무를 실패한 자기 부하를 죽인다. 그러나 아무리 죽여도 충성스런 부
하들이 늘 그 옆에 존재한다.


? Whenever a villian has captured the hero, he will pause for 5 minutes
to tell the hero _every_ detail of his plan to destroy and/or rule the earth,
including times, dates, and addresses.

악당이 주인공을 체포했을 때 그는 약 5분 정도의 시간을 할애하여 주인공에게 모든
자신의 계획을 다 설명해 준다. 예를 들어 지구를 멸망시키거나 정복하거나 하는 그
런 세부사항들, 심지어 시간과 날짜와 주소까지 다 설명해 준다.


? The bad guy, having finally gotten the good guy into his clutches,
will usually spend a few meglomaniac minutes gloating over his victory and his
opponent's downfall. This increment of time will prove just enough to allow
the good guy to figure a way out of his predicament, or just long enough to
allow a rescue attempt.

주인공을 쓰러트린 악당은 쓰러진 주인공에게 다가가서 자신의 승리를 자축하는 자아
도취적 발언을 느끼하게 내뱉는 시간을 갖는다. 이 시간동안 주인공은 늘 회복해서
반격하거나 도피하게 된다.


? You can always tell which nationality the United States and the
popular media are currently most unhappy with because that nation sends all
their villains to star in Hollywood movies during those times (e.g. Germans in
the late 40's and 50's, Asians in the 60's and 70's, Soviets in the 70's and
80's and Middle Easterners in the 90's).
 
  헐리우드 영화를 보면 그 영화가 만들어진 당시 미국이 제일 싫어하는 나라가 누
군지 쉽게 알 수 있다. (예를 들어 4~50년대에는 독일이 악당으로 나오고 6~70년대에
는 아시아 인들이, 그리고 7~80년대에는 소련인들이 그리고 90년대에는 중동사람들
이 악당으로 나온다.)


the only way you know a bad guy is dead is when a really bad pun is made on
killing him.

나쁜놈이 확실히 죽었다고 알 수 있는 유일한 방법은 주인공이 나쁜 놈을 죽이면서
조롱하는 말을 내뱉을 때이다.


The last bad guy is always taken down by someone who has never used guns
before, preferrably a woman, an accountant, or a young girl.

최후의 악당을 쏴 죽이는 사람은 주로 젊은 여자와 같이, 그 전에는 총을 한번도 쏴
본 적이 없는 사람들이다.


(in Hong Kong action movies) White people are always either bad guys or
hostage. If the hero is Asian and is befriended by a white person, the white
person will always betray the hero.

(홍콩영화에서) 백인들은 악당 아니면 인질로 나온다. 만일 주인공이 아시아인이고
어떤 백인과 친구가 된다면 그 백인은 결국 주인공을 배신할 것이다.


Shotguns fired by police officers and prison guards always miss.
경찰들과 교도소 경비대원들이 쏘는 총은 항상 빗나간다.


Every common and little villain has got ugly face. If a villain is good-
looking it means he is very sophisticated abou his evil plans.

악당들은 보통 흉측한 얼굴을 가지고 있다. 만일 악당이 잘 생겼다면 그것은 그가 매
우 지능적인 악당이라는 뜻이다.


When the villain is beaten( his plans for world domination ruined and he lies
in a pool of blood coughing with a gun pressed on his/her head etc.) and if
thehero of the story plans to mercifully spare his life. This always means
that the villain will make one more feeble but still deadly attempt on the hero
큦 life( friends and loved ones also do). This attempt is always foiled
by the hero or his/her friends and the villain gets splattered. The practical
value of this cliche is that the hero or his/her friends can always kill the
bad guy without ethical problems.

만일 악당이 패하였음에도 불구하고 주인공이 그를 살려주었다면 이것은 곧 그 악당
이 머지 않아 다시 한번 주인공을 죽일려고 시도할 것이라는 것을 의미한다. 이러한
시도는 주로 주인공이나 혹은 주인공의 친구에 의해서 실패하고 그 악당은 잔인하게
죽게 된다. 헐리우드 영화의 이러한 법칙은 나쁜 놈을 잔인하게 죽일 때 발생할 수
있는 윤리적인 문제를 간단히 해결해주는 역할을 하게 된다.


Corollary: The villains will always put the hero in these devices because they
want him to die a horrible and painful death, rather than just shooting him
through the head. However, instead of standing around to watch him die, the
villain will immediately leave to complete whatever work the hero was going to
stop. He will not leave any guards behind in case of the hero's escape.

악당은 절대로 단번에 주인공을 쏴서 죽이지 않고 특별히 만든 장치를 통해 서서히
고통스럽게 죽이려고 한다. 그러나 그는 희한하게도 주인공이 그 고통스럽게 죽는 모
습을 보지 않고 반드시 그 자리를 떠난다.


All villains can have a secret complex built the size of a small town and
NOBODY is aware that it is there, or that it was built. Presumably there is a
special yellow pages for villains containing construction companies with
expertise in building everything from space stations to nuclear reactors who
have all sworn to absolute secrecy!

많은 악당들이 작은 도시 크기만한 거대한 비밀 기지를 가지고 있다. 그럼에도 불구
하고 아무도 그곳의 존재여부를 알지 못한다. 그런것이 있는지, 뭐하는지에 대해서
아는 사람은 아무도 없다. 아마도 우주 정거장에서부터 핵시설까지 악당들만을 위한
특별 비밀 공사 서비스를 제공하는 건설 회사가 있는 것 같다.


Whenever a hero and a villain are facing off, the villain always manages to
find a hostage and makes the hero put down his gun(even if the hero has
something like a shotgun and could've killed the bad guy before the hostage
was taken).

주인공과 악당이 대면하고 있을 경우에 악당은 항상 인질을 잡고서는 주인공으로 하
여금 총을 내려놓게 만든다. 주인공은 악당이 인질을 찾아서 잡을 때까지 총을 쏠 충
분한 시간이 있음에도 인질을 잡기 전까지는 쏘지 않는다.


The villain always must be refinest than the hero. As the villain says Welcome
to my house, Mr. What's Your Name. I hope you'll enjoy your stay here, the
grossy hero calls him names: You bastard, son of a... I'm gonna make you eat
your tongue!

악당은 주인공보다 더 세련되고 멋진 인간임에 틀림없다. 악당은 주인공에게 늘 세련
된 매너로 다음과 같은 말을 한다. “내 집에 온 걸 환영하네. 여기서 좋은 시간 되
길 바라네.” 반면에 주인공은 악당에게 다음과 같은 말을 한다. “이 더러운 놈.
개XX. Son of a bitch...Fuxx)


If main character has friend who is equal or better than him it is quaranteed
that he will betray the hero. In the end though traitor can regret his actions
and save the day in his noble sacrifice.

만일 주인공에게 자신과 동등하거나 더 뛰어난 능력을 지닌 친구가 있다면 분명히
그 놈은 주인공을 배반한다. 그러나 끝에서는 자신의 행동을 후회하고 주인공을 위
한 장렬한 희생을 하게 된다.


A serial killeris omnipresent: he will be in every corner that the victim
tries to hide in, in every park that she goes through, and in every place that
she lives in.

연쇄살인범은 무소부재의 존재이다. 그는 희생될 여자가 숨는 모든 구석에 존재하며
그녀가 통과하는 모든 공원에 있을 뿐 아니라 그녀가 사는 모든 장소에 항상 존재한
다.


you will never see a villain that is more handsome than the hero is.
헐리우드 영화에서 주인공보다 잘생긴 악당은 절대로 존재하지 않는다.



The villain, even if he has an army of thugs to do his dirty work for him,
will always commit at least one murder personally, no matter how futile of
counterproductive it may be to his evil schemes, to justify the hero killing
him later.

비록 명령에 따라 살인을 저지르는 수많은 충성스런 부하가 있다 해도, 악당은 누군
가 한 명만큼은 꼭 자신이 직접 죽인다. 이로 인해 주인공이 악당을 죽이는 행위는
정당화된다.


Bad guys usually have a love interest who is extremely beautiful and
undoubtedly ends up falling in love with the hero.

일반적으로 나쁜 놈들은 결국에는 주인공과 사랑에 빠지게 되어 있는 한 아름다운 여
자에 흑심을 품게 된다.  



If the Hero works for a Government agency (FBI, CIA etc.), the villain that
you have met earlier in the film will only be a cleverly placed henchman to
throw the movie watcher off the scent. The real - major - villain will
actually be a corrupt government official who our hero knows or trusts (and is
most likely to be going into retirement soon). This person will reveal himself
when our hero is in the most inescapable position or has just been tricked by
the villain.

만일 주인공이 정부기관(FBI, CIA 등)에서 일하는 사람이라면, 영화 전반부에 등장하
는 나쁜 놈은 알고 보면 관객을 속이기 위한 피라미에 불과하다. 영화 후반부의 진
짜 두목은 평소에 주인공이 잘 알고 신뢰하는 부패한 고위 간부이다. 이 진짜 악당
은 우리의 주인공이 가장 절박한 상황에 처했을 때 혹은 큰 속임을 당한 후에야 비로
소 정체를 드러내게 된다.



A dying villain/henchman/enemy soldier has -nothing- better to do with his
last breath than take a shot at one of the hero's buddies who is cheering and
yelling, We've won!

쓰러져 죽어가는 악당 앞에서 절대로 “우리가 이겼어요!” 라고 소리지르지 마라.
죽어가던 악당은 그 말에 열 받아서 한방을 더 쏘고 죽을 것이다.


If the henchman failed his mission and asked death for the failure, don't
worry. the villain will never kill him but give him another mission, however,
when the henchman asked to spare his life, he'll surely die.

만일 임무를 실패한 부하가 “죽여 주십시오. 어떤 처벌도 달게 받겠습니다.” 라고
악당에게 말하면 절대로 그 부하를 죽이지 않고 다른 임무를 준다. 그러나 그 쫄개
가 살려주세요”라고 하면 반드시 죽인다.


When the villain is a woman, she's always vulgar, smokes, and wears most
extravagant clothes.

만일 악당이 여자라면, 그녀는 항상 저속하고, 담배를 피며 가장 사치스런 옷을 입
고 있을 것이다.


If the villains are more than hundreds, it will be easy to exterminate them,
yet, if the bad guys are only two or three, it will be extremely hard to kill
them.

만일 악당들이 수백명 이상이라면 그들을 없애는 것은 매우 쉬운 일이다. 그러나 만
일 악당의 수가 둘이나 셋에 불과하다면 그들을 죽이는 것은 극도로 어려운 일이 될
것이다.


The villain is usually a European, preferably a German named Hanz or Karl with
a thick German accent, or a Soviet named Uri or Vladimir.

만일 악당이 독일인이면 그 악당 이름은 "한스"나 "카알"이고 만일 소련인이면
"유리"나 "블라디미르" 중 하나일 것이다.  



The villain will always grab the girl,pull her head back by her hair, and
lick,smell or kiss her neck.(holding a knife to it is optional).

악당은 항상 여자의 머리카락을 잡고 머리를 뒤로 당긴다. 그리고 그녀의 목에 입을
대고 냄새를 맡거나 핥거나 입맞춘다. (이 상황에서 칼을 목에 대는 것은 옵션으로
선택할 수 있다.)



The Villain will always find a moment in the movie to tell the Hero every lip-
smacking gory detail of how he killed the Hero's wife/girlfriend/best friend
(extra points if he raped them beforehand), so we'll forgive the Hero for
murdering the Villain at the end instead of having him arrested.

악당은 항상 주인공에게 자신이 어떻게 주인공의 아내/애인/친구를 잔인하게 살해했
는지를  느끼한 목소리로 빈정거리며 설명해 준다. 그로 인해 우리는 그 악당이 경찰
에 체포되는 대신 주인공에 의해 살해되는 행위를 용서해 줄 수 있다.



The Villain, when cornered at the end by the Hero, will taunt the Hero about
how he's going to avoid jail on a technicality and his lawyer will set him
free and he'll go on killing people -- so we'll forgive the Hero for murdering
the unarmed Villain

또한 만일 악당이 주인공에게 잡히게 된다면 그 악당은 자신은 변호사를 선임하면 무
죄가 될 것이고 결국 풀려날 것이라는 사실을 말하며 주인공을 조롱한다. 역시 우리
는 이로 인해 주인공이 비무장 악당을 죽이는 장면을 용서할 수 있게 된다.



When villains tie their captives hands behind them with rope,they apparently
never do it too tightly;the hero can always free himself if he works at it
long enough.

악당이 주인공의 손을 의자뒤로 묶는 장면이나오면 우리는 곧 그 로프가 쉽게 풀릴
것이란 사실을 알 수 있다.


Whenever there are three bad guys, one is nice and polite and doesn't want any
trouble. Another is creepy and mysterious and isn't at all scared to kill
anyone. The third guy is impressionable and at first he's nice like the polite
guy, but as the movie progresses he gets pursuaded by the creepy guy to be
bad. In the end both the creepy guy and the impressionable guy die, and the
nice guy earns the trust of the good guys and they let him escape because he's
such a likable guy and he had such good intentions.

만일 악당이 세 명이 등장한다면 반드시 다음의 사건이 전개된다. 첫째 악당은 착하
고 예의바르고 문제를 일으키기를 원치 않는다. 반면에 둘 째 놈은 잔인하고 흉측하
며 사람을 함부로 죽인다. 세 번째 악당은 처음에는 첫 번째 악당처럼 착한 것 같지
만 시간이 지날수록 점점 둘 째 놈의 영향을 받아 같이 잔인한 악당이 되어진다. 영
화의 끝에 나쁜 두 놈은 반드시 죽지만, “착한 악당”은 주인공의 신뢰를 받게 되
고 결국 그가 탈출하는 것을 주인공이 도와주게 된다.


No individual among the villain's henchmen can have an IQ above 70.
악당의 꼬봉들 중에는 절대로 아이큐 70 이상은 없다.


The Cliff Scene - Bad Guy and Good Guy fight each other, both trying to push
their opponent over the cliff. When the Good Guy finnaly makes it, he grabs
Bad Guy's right hand has he hangs from the cliff, knowing that he wouldn't
have done the same thing for him. Misfortunately, the bad guy was wearing
gloves, his hand slips off the glove and we watch him fall to his death,
knowing that the hero, who just minutes ago was trying to kill the creep, did
everything hecould to save him

절벽격투 장면이 나오면 반드시 다음 장면이 나온다는 것을 기대하라. 주인공과 나
쁜 놈은 목숨을 걸고 싸운다.-> 결국 나쁜 놈이 져서 한 손을 절벽을 잡고 매달린
다.-> 주인공은 반드시 한 손을 내밀어서 그를 구해주려고 한다 -> 나쁜 놈은 손을
내밀지만 장갑만 빠지고 결국  떨어져 죽는다.
우리는 이 장면을 통해서 주인공이 방금전까지는 나쁜 놈을 죽이려고 몸부림치다가
마지막 순간에는 그를 구하기 위해 최선을 다하는 감동적인 휴머니즘의 장면을 보게
된다.



Villains never tell their henchmen to kill somone. Some of the euphemisms are:
Get rid of the problem Take care of the problem Take care of it or the simple
You know what to do.

악당은 절대로 자신의 삐리에게 누군가를 “죽이라고” 직접적으로 말하지 않는다.
대신에 다음과 같이 은유적으로 말한다. “문제를 해결하게”. “신속히 처리하게”
그러면 그 아이큐 70짜리는 다 알아서 해결한다.  


The chief evil villain always leaves one of the cops/lesser crooks bothering
him alive, to tell the others what happened here

악당은 항상 경찰 중의 한 명은 완전히 죽이지 않고 반쯤 죽인채로 남겨둔다. 그래
서 우리의 주인공이 “어떻게 된 일이야”하고 물으면 그 경찰은 콜록거리며 상황을
설명해준다.


All movie villains will die in reverse order of importance. The archvillain
must always die last.

모든 영화에서 악당이 죽는 순서는 악당의 중요도와 반비례한다. 최고로 나쁜 놈이
가장 늦게 죽는다.


Villains can have a gun fight for 20 minutes and never hit the good guy, but
after they've been mortally wounded and are lying on the ground gasping at
their last seconds of life they manage to get off one last shot and either
kill the Hero's buddy/girlfriend/mentor or the hero himself sometimes.

악당은 정상적인 컨디션으로는 20분 동안 총을 갈겨도 주인공을 맞추지 못한다. 그러
나 그 악당이 결국 주인공의총에 맞아서 일단 쓰러지면 상황이 바뀐다. 숨을 헐떡이
며 거의 죽어가는 기진맥진한 그 순간에 그 나쁜 놈은 딱 한 방을 쏘는데 이때는 반
드시 주인공의 친구나, 애인 때로는 주인공의 가슴을 정확히 명중시킨다.  



At some point in their most significant meeting the villain will say to the
hero, You and I are very much alike, Mr ____, before launching into another
(unsuccessful) attempt to kill him.

악당이 주인공을 포획해서 죽이려는 순간 그는 반드시 주인공에게 다음과 같은 말을
한다. “너와 나는 공통점이 많이 있어....”


Every villain has fondness for fine art.
모든 악당은 예술에 대해 대단한 지식과 식견을 지니고 있다.


When good person is dead with his eye open, another person always closes his
eyes, yet, when the bad guy died with open-eyed, no one do the thing.

만일 좋은 사람이 눈을 뜬 채로 죽으면 반드시 누군가가 그 눈을 감겨 준다. 그러나
나쁜 놈이 눈뜨고 죽으면 아무도 그 눈을 감겨주지 않는다. - -
