오지만디아스

 

나는 고대의 나라에서 온 나그네를 만났는데

 

그의 이야기이다: 몸뚱이 없는 커다란 돌 다리 두개가

 

사막에 서있다. 그 근처 모랫속에는

 

깨어진 얼굴이 반쯤 묻혀있다. 찌푸린 얼굴로

 

굳게 다문 입, 차갑게 내려다보는 멸시의 표정엔

 

조각가가 분출한 열정이 생명 없는 물체에 각인되어 있어서

 

이들을 묘사한 손과 심장의 박동이 아직도 살아남아 있는 것 같다.

 

받침대엔 이런 말이 써있다

 

"나의 이름은 왕중의 왕, 오지만디아스다.

 

너희들 위대한 자들아, 내 업적을 보고 두손을 들어라!"

 

붕괴된 거대한 폐허 주위에는 남아있는 것이 아무것도 없다.

 

적막하고 솟은 것 없이 평평하게 끝없이 뻗어있는

 

텅 빈 사막 밖에는!

Ozymandias

 

I met a traveler from an antique land

 

Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone

 

Stand in the desert ... Near them, on the sand,

 

Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,

Tell that its sculptor well those passions read

And on the pedestal these words appear:

 

"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:

 

Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"

 

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

 

Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare

 

The lone and level sands stretch far away.
