Actually, according to informed sources (see http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/billgatesspeech.htm ), Bill Gates didn’t make the speech shown here.  This is one of those Internet Fictions that abound as was pointed out to me by someone who was browsing my web site.  It's actually an excerpt from the book "Dumbing Down our Kids" by educator Charles Sykes.  It is a list of eleven things you did not learn in school and directed at high school and college grads.  However, someone, for reasons unknown, decided to credit it to Bill Gates.  And who knows, perhaps Gates stole a page from Sykes’ book as part of his talk to the kids at Mt. Whitney High School, or maybe he never actually gave a speech at Mt. Whitney at all!  Still, the points made in the story are worth pondering.
